Position Summary
Amalgamate Solutions is seeking a qualified Health Physicist or Nuclear Engineer to support a variety of nuclear safety, radiation protection, regulatory compliance, and facility design projects. The individual will work independently and with multidisciplinary teams to review technical information, identify safety and compliance issues, and develop practical recommendations for clients.
Assignments may include nuclear facilities, research and isotope-production operations, radiation safety programs, radioactive material licensing, industrial facilities, and other regulated projects.
Primary Responsibilities
- Review facility designs, drawings, calculations, procedures, and technical reports for nuclear safety and radiation protection considerations.
- Evaluate shielding, radiation zoning, contamination controls, ventilation, monitoring, radioactive material handling, and waste-management provisions.
- Support the classification and evaluation of safety-related systems, structures, and components.
- Review nuclear safety analyses, hazard evaluations, regulatory submittals, and supporting design documents.
- Apply applicable NRC, DOE, Agreement State, and industry requirements.
- Prepare clear technical comments, reports, compliance evaluations, and client deliverables.
- Participate in project meetings and provide technical consultation to clients and project teams.
- Support radiation safety program development, licensing, audits, assessments, and corrective actions.
- Track technical comments and verify that identified issues are adequately resolved.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and comply with applicable quality and document-control requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in health physics, nuclear engineering, radiological engineering, physics, or a related discipline.
- At least three to five years of relevant experience in health physics, nuclear engineering, radiation safety, nuclear facility design, licensing, or safety analysis.
- Knowledge of radiation protection, ALARA, radioactive material controls, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, calculations, standards, and regulatory documents.
- Strong technical writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage assignments independently and meet project deadlines.
- Ability to handle confidential and proprietary client information.

Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a related discipline.
- Certified Health Physicist or Professional Engineer credential.
- Experience with DOE or NRC-regulated facilities.
- Experience with research reactors, advanced reactors, isotope-production facilities, fuel-cycle facilities, or other nuclear operations.
- Familiarity with nuclear quality assurance, safety classification, shielding analysis, criticality safety, or safety-basis documentation.
- Consulting, architecture and engineering, EPC, national laboratory, or reactor-vendor experience.
Compensation
Compensation will be based on qualifications, experience, availability, and assignment requirements. The position may be structured as a part-time employee or independent contractor role, with the potential for additional responsibilities as the company’s project workload grows.
